The Canalside Heritage Centre is a vibrant hub for visitors to enjoy and explore, with an enticing tearoom, welcoming gift shop and interpretation centre, as well as tranquil gardens and lots of activities to delight in. Our location on the River Trent and the Beeston and Nottingham Canal makes us an ideal starting point for picturesque walks where you can look out for the many boats, enjoy the changing colours and sunshine on the water and enjoy the plentiful wildlife that can be found at any time of year. We are also located on the Big Track so if you enjoy cycling, we're the perfect spot for refreshments and relaxation after a long ride.

Covid 19

Currently, due to the ongoing Covid 19 situation, our exhibition and the upstairs of the Heritage Centre are closed. Our tearoom is open for a takeaway service and whilst there is no indoor seating you can sit in our beautiful garden which includes a covered seating area. Access to our gift shop is restricted but if you see something you'd like to purchase, please ask a member of staff who'll be more than happy to help. We have taken comprehensive steps to ensure the site is safe for you to visit and enjoy. These include:

  • A one-way system, with entrance to the tearoom via the yellow front door and exit off the site via the garden gate.
  • A one-in-one out policy for customers in the tearoom, please queue outside the entrance keeping a 2 metre distance from people outside of the group you are visiting with. We also ask that visitors do not queue on the 2 footbridges leading to the Heritage Centre.
  • Hand sanitisers are available on site. Staff have received extra hygiene training and clean touch points in the Heritage Centre throughout the day.
  • Face coverings must be worn when inside the Heritage Centre and can be removed when in the garden or on the balcony.
  • A screen has been installed at the tearoom counter to help protect both our staff and visitors.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding, we hope to be able to return to normal soon.
