Visit us

The Canalside Heritage Centre is a vibrant hub for visitors to enjoy and explore, with an enticing tearoom, welcoming gift shop and interpretation centre, as well as tranquil gardens and lots of activities to delight in. Our location on the River Trent and the Beeston and Nottingham Canal makes us an ideal starting point for picturesque walks where you can look out for the many boats, enjoy the changing colours and sunshine on the water and enjoy the plentiful wildlife that can be found at any time of year. We are also located on the Big Track so if you enjoy cycling, we're the perfect spot for refreshments and relaxation after a long ride.

Covid 19

The Government is relaxing the COVID-19 restrictions from 19th July 2021. Here at the Canalside Heritage Centre we are taking a cautious approach to full reopening as we want to ensure the safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors. We are so excited to open the Heritage Centre more fully, but we please ask that you continue to respect everyone when visiting, as you all have throughout the last 16 months.

    • The wearing of face masks when visiting is now optional. Some of our staff and volunteers will still be wearing them, but it will be the choice of visitors if they wish to wear a mask.
    • Indoor seating is now available in the tearoom. As it is a small space we have limited the number of tables to ensure that there is a safe distance between groups. We ask that you please do not move tables and chairs.
    • Hand sanitising stations will be still be available and we recommend visitors use these when entering and exiting the building.
    • We are keeping the test and trace QR codes for visitors who wish to check in to the NHS app when arriving at the Heritage Centre.
    • There is no longer a one-way system and all public areas of the Heritage Centre are accessible to visitors except the exhibition spaces. We ask that you are respectful of others and still maintain social distancing.

Thank you for your continued support!

    Opening times

We are currently open 9.30am to 4.00pm, 7 days a week including over the Christmas and New Year period, except on the following days:

    Christmas Eve: 9.30am - 2.30pm
    Christmas Day: CLOSED
    Boxing Day: CLOSED

We are open as normal on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

    How to find us

We are located at Beeston Lock, at the end of Canal Side in Beeston Rylands, just cross the wooden footbridge over the canal and the Heritage Centre is to your left. If you are arriving by car there is parking available along the canal but as we are situated within a residential area, we ask that you are please respectful of our neighbours when parking. If you type in "Canalside Heritage Centre" into the search bar below, the map will show our exact location.

If you have any questions about your visit, please don't hesitate to contact us by phone on 0115 9221773 or by email [email protected]
