Help save Canalside Donate Due to the current Coronavirus situation, the Canalside Heritage Centre is facing a critical financial crisis! What's happened? In-line with the government lockdown, we have closed the Heritage Centre and cancelled all events and activities to protect staff, volunteers and the public. This means, however, that we have no income from our tearoom, gift shop, ticket sales or exhibition admissions. With our external funding having also recently having come to an end, this has had a huge impact on the present and future operation of the Heritage Centre. We are applying to several organisations for emergency funding but there is no guarantee that these will be successful and even if they are it might not be enough to save Canalside. To be blunt, as a small, independent charity (No. 1155914) we have no safety net and are now under serious threat of being forced to close the Heritage Centre for good. What can you do? As well as being a tragedy for the Canalside team of staff and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to make CHC a success, we feel the loss of the Heritage Centre will have a hugely negative impact on the local community. Since we opened almost 3 years ago we have: Restored and renovated the historic 18th weir cottages, which were abandoned and derelict, into sustainable use as the Heritage Centre, meaning present and future generations can discover the vitally important story of the local waterways. Welcomed over 200,000 visitors through the doors. Ran local history and conservation workshops for over 1,000 local school students Developed health and wellbeing activities using the outdoors, the waterways and the heritage of the cottages which have benefitted over 2,000 of the most vulnerable people in the community. Provided 26 work placements for local students, including students with additional needs, to gain experience and develop skills. We know this is a very troubling time for everyone, but we hope you'll agree that it would be devastating for the area if all of this was lost because of the Coronavirus situation. Please support us by donating to this appeal, anything you can afford will really make a difference. Please also share this appeal with family and friends so we can reach as many people as possible.
